Dried Locusts – Unseasoned
Unseasoned dried locusts (migratory locust, Locusta migratoria) in a value-sized pack. Whole, large and unflavoured: no salt, no oil, nothing added. The most striking edible insect we sell, and the one that gets the biggest reaction at the table.
What they taste like
Locusts have a fuller flavour than crickets: nutty, savoury, slightly reminiscent of roasted nuts and dried shrimp, with a satisfying crunch. We recommend removing the wings and the hind legs before eating, as they are tough.
How to use dried locusts
- Fry them briefly in a little oil with garlic, chilli and lime for a snack or a starter.
- Roast them in the oven with soy sauce, honey and sesame for a glazed topping on noodles or rice bowls.
- Serve them whole on tapas boards, at tastings or at themed dinners where the look matters.
- Grind them into flour for savoury crackers or protein bread.
Why locusts
Locusts are high in protein and provide fibre (chitin), iron, zinc and B vitamins. The migratory locust is approved as a food in the EU under the Novel Food regulation. Like other farmed insects, locusts need far less feed, water and land than conventional livestock.
Storage
Keep in a cool, dry place and reseal after opening.
Allergen note
Locusts contain protein that may cause reactions in people allergic to crustaceans, molluscs or dust mites.
Available in 9 g, 36 g and 500 g packs. The 500 g pack is intended for restaurants, catering and events.
